Week ending 20th May 2022

Good afternoon and welcome back to our class blog. As promised this week we have been learning using the text A Squash and a Squeeze. What a wonderful week we have had. Let's show you some of the things that we have been creating this week ......

As always we like to start the week off with a story map. Week on week we encourage the children to show us their story mapping skills - a really important element when re-telling stories. Each week we encourage the children to use language such as beginning, middle and end and to show the reader which way the text flows by using arrows. This is a a lovely idea to maybe try at home smiley

We have also been exploring how to write labels for the different animals in the story. This uses our Read Write Inc skills and we can show our understanding of how different sounds when pushed together make a word. Remember to keep practising our green words at home smiley

This week we have also been encouraging the children to write independently in lots of different contexts using their knowledge from the book. Take a look at this lovely example of writing. Well done yes

We have also been exploring materials and their purposes in our Creative area. We have cut, stuck, twisted, bent and manipulated lots of different materials to make masks to help us retell the story of A Squash and a Squeeze smiley

We have been using the outdoor space to explore what a squash and a squeeze actually looks like. Here we are exploring different materials. What a wonderful discussion we had - what would be good for a roof, what would keep the animals dry?

Finally, we explored story telling as we do each week. Take a look at us as we re-tell the story. smiley

Have a wonderful weekend. Next week we will be exploring the text The Snail and the Whale. Have a little look this weekend in preparation for Monday smiley

Just a gentle reminder that Reading Books are changed each and every Monday and we do ask that you sign your child's reading record. If you need any help please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff. Have a great weekend.
