Week ending 25th March 2022

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. This week has been a wonderful busy week as always in Reception W. We have been using the text A Superhero like me as the focus for our learning. This story is a lovely story about the superheroes we meet in our everyday lives like police officers, fire fighters and teachers. This has lead to some lovely conversations about our dreams and aspirations when we are older. Let's have a little look ...

We started the week off by listening to the story and thinking about the different people we come into contact with and their role in helping and supporting us. We had such lovely discussions about people in the community, people in school and the jobs people have in our families. We drew pictures about the types of jobs we would like in the future smiley

On Monday we also looked at developing our recognition of 3D shapes. We made patterns with them and talked about their attributes. Why not ask your child to name them and see if you can find any of them in and around the house? We have learned cone, cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and pyramid yes

As part of our Literacy work we have also been thinking about the types of questions we would ask people in the community. We had lots of wonderful questions and the children were really keen to find out more about people's jobs and responsibilities. here are some of the questions we thought of smiley

Further to our work on 3D shapes we talked about and predicted whether we thought they would roll or not. It was a perfect opportunity to lean the names of the shapes and to predict and describe the characteristics of shapes. Here we are putting it to the test.

We even managed to squeeze in a visit to the ALPS. We explored the area, found twigs and made letters from our name. We ordered sticks in order of their size, we had snack in the great outdoors and had a wonderful time in the Spring sunshine. We can't wait to go again on Friday smiley

I look forward to seeing you next week at parents evening. Please use the Weduc system to book your appointment. Remember Monday is loan library and reading book changing day. Just a gentle reminder to sign your child's reading record when they have shared the book with you - this helps us to know it has been read.

Have a great weekend
