week ending 28th April 2023

Hello and welcome to this weeks class blog. This week we have been using the text Stickman to support us with our learning. We started the week off with a visit to the ALPS. Where's better to read the story and make a stick man than in the woods! They look amazing on our display in class. We will be going back out onto the ALPS next Wednesday (3rd May) to learn all about Zog at Dragon School smiley

We have explored some lovely invitations to come and play this week linked to Julia Donaldson stories. We have explored sketching her portrait, re-telling familiar stories such as the Gruffalo as well as thinking about different uses for sticks just like in the story. Take a little look at these weeks set ups in continuous provision smiley

We then used different natural materials to create a stickman image in the creative area. Our challenge was to write a label for our creation and share what we did with a friend.

In thinking about all of the Julia Donaldson texts that we have read so far we talked about our favourite ones. We discussed why it was our favourite, what did we like best about it and how we can share our ideas, opinions and thoughts with others. Take a look at some of the lovely illustrations we created and the display that we have created to showcase our talents as illustrators.

We have also been putting the author Julia Donaldson in the spotlight. Take a look at this lovely piece of work. Why not ask your child if they can remember what it was we were writing about - I'll give you a clue.... It was about creating a wish yes

We spend a lot of time in class exploring writing. We teach the children that writing happens anywhere - inside the classroom, outside the classroom, on a table, on the floor or even in the air! We spend a lot of time setting up high quality writing experiences so children learn about letters and words in different contexts. Here is just a small sample of where writing has taken place this week - in our pirate writing area, in the post office, outside on the floor and many more places! I'd love to seep pictures of you writing at home. Send them to me via Weduc and we can share them in class smiley

Next week we will be using the wonderfully written story of Zog. There are so many lovely variations on this book - Zog and the Flying Doctor, Zog Christmas. Have a little look together on You Tube and snuggle up and watch a story. I have attached a link to the story below. Have a great weekend
