A warm welcome back to our class blog. This half term is going to be filled with Superhero fun. We are going to be reading and exploring many different texts, magazines and other reading materials to help us with our learning.
We started the week off by exploring what we already knew about Superheroes. Some of us wrote lists about the characters we already knew so that we could use this to help us discover new information and learning.
In the midst of the week we took a little break from Superheroes to focus on Pancake Day. We talked about how and why we celebrate this custom and we of course, explored eating pancakes. We talked about our likes and dislikes, shared our opinions in conversations, developed our hand eye co-ordination and learned a little more about making healthy food choices. Who knew pancakes could involve so much high quality conversation and learning.
So back to Superheroes. We wanted to get a feel for what it would be like to be a real Superhero. We selected costumes, struck a pose and then created labels showing our new Superhero names. The children really enjoyed this task and it was very much based on their own interests and likes. Our writing is really developing and we are independently putting into practise what we have been learning about in Read Write Inc.
We continue learning about numbers and shape, space and measure using our number of the week system. This week we have consolidated the number 14. In continuous provision more and more children are disappearing to go and record the many different ways we can show 14. We are really pleased with the progress children are making.
We have also been matching numeral and quantity. This is a really good activity that is simple to do at home. Why not have a try?
Have a great weekend.
