week ending 29th April 2022

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. What a wonderful week it has been in Reception. We have loved the story of Stickman and have had some lovely adventures this week both inside and outside of the classroom. Let's take a little look ......

After reading the story we took a look inside of our wonderful well stocked library and lifted out the Julia Donaldson books that we have in class. We were amazed by just how many we had. 23 and counting. Did you also know that the Gruffalo was the first story Julia wrote and ever since she has been hiding Gruffalo images inside of some of her other books? We found one in The Snail and The Whale, Superworm and Tiddler. Go and check them out yourself smiley

We have also been exploring Stickman in our writing. Take a look at some of the wonderful and independent writing we have completed this week. The children are putting so much effort and enthusiasm into their work. We are so very proud of them yes

We have also been creating story maps. These are a great way of recording the events that happen in a story and talking about the order. This is a great activity for helping children to think about the order and sequence of stories as well as developing their reading, writing and speaking. Why not see if they can create a mini story map at home linked to one of their favourite stories? I would love to see them

We have also been for our weekly visit to the ALPS. Guess what we made? You've guessed it. Stickmen. Here are some of us in action and the stickmen proudly on display in the classroom. The children worked so hard changing and adapting and problem solving as they worked. We learned about being resilient and not giving up. Important skills for life

We can't wait to add these weeks learning to our Julia Donaldson board on Friday. It's a lovely reminder of all the wonderful things we have learned. Next week we are going to be going to Dragon School. Can you guess the story? It's Zog. Another beautifully illustrated story from Julia Donaldson.

Have a wonderful weekend
