week ending 3rd February 2023

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. This week we have been using the text The Three Little Pigs to help us with our learning. The focus of this week has been on story telling and we have been using our puppet theatre to take on the roles of different characters and how we can use and change our voices to sound like the different characters. Here we are practising our story telling skills smiley

This week we have been exploring lots of lovely invitations to play. We spend a long time planning and resourcing the classroom so that the children have access to meaningful learning experiences. Take a look at this weeks invitations to come and play yes

To help us with our story telling we have added some reading buddies to our classroom. We have loved spending time sharing books, getting cosy and cuddling up and sharing our new books with our new friends. Perfect!

We have also been exploring how Traditional Tales have been told all around the world. We utilised this opportunity to get the world map out and earn a little more about authors like Hans Christian Anderson and where in the world some of the stories we love so much are set. Here's a little look at our work

We have also been exploring direction this week. We used cards with directions such as forwards, backwards, left and right on and had to get the wolf to the 3 little pigs houses by creating a simple map. This was a great activity and really got us thinking about what hand we use - are we left or right handed? what does forward and backwards mean? Try at home! hide an object and give someone directions to go off and find it.

We have also been exploring mark making and how we can use different materials to make marks, write letters and words. Here we are using sand and glitter in large trays to help us practice our letters.

Finally, we cannot wait to welcome you to our Reading Stay and Play on Thursday. We have so many exciting opportunities for you to come and learn about how we teach and promote a love of reading in class. Here is a sneak peek of what you can look forward to smiley

Have a fabulous weekend smiley
