week ending 7th January 2022

Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to Reception W class blog. This half term we will be learning all about Traditional Tales. We will be using some very familiar texts to help us with our learning and we will explore new techniques such as hot seating and Talk 4 Writing. Very exciting things to come.

As this week is a short week we have spent time exploring and listening to various Traditional Tales. During the next few weeks we will explore lots of different versions of the same story and talk about what is the same and what is different - important skills when learning to talk about and read stories.

You will have also noticed that we have sent the children home with a bookmark in their reading record. This bookamrk is to use alongside the children when you listen to them read. There are lots of questions and ideas about things to discuss, find and explore when looking at and sharing books together. Some of these questions will help to develop your child's comprehension skills and ability to explore language and vocab. If you require any further information please speak to a member of staff.

We will also begin our loan library on Monday. When the children come into class on a Monday morning we will have set the books up and allow them to choose a book to bring home each and every week to share with a grown up. These books are designed for you to read and for them to sit alongside and talk about things that happen in the story - another use for the bookmarks we sent home. Please try to remeber your loan library book each week as we rotate these and need to keep the levels for choice high. Thank you for your continued support.

Next week we will be exploring the Gingerbread Man as our first text. Have a little look at the link below and watch the story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoQyyB5xvLk

Have a wonderful weekend
