week ending 9.10.20

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. This week we started off by reading the story of the Gruffalo. We are beginning to develop our ability to hear rhyming words and to identify them. This is something that can be developed at home as well. Let's take a look at this weeks learning.....
During our text of the week time the children have really embraced the blurb and they are aware that it is located on the reverse of the book and tells the reader a snippet about the book. Why not look at some books at home and have a go at reading the blurb?
We have explored different ways of representing the Gruffalo and other characters from the story. We have used crayons, oil pastels and materials and objects that we might find in the wood. We brought them back to class and made our own Gruffalo. This is now proudly displayed on our classroom wall.
We have also been using the Gruffalo to help us with our number work and measuring. We have thought about the different ways and objects we can use to measure - we discussed the use of tape measures, rulers and  other items. Here we are using cubes to measure the different footprints of the animals in the story.
We also wanted to create a den for the Gruffalo. We talked about what we would need and how to make it strong. We has some super ideas and we decided that sticks and string would be a good start. We develop our resilience and kept on going even when it proved difficult. Take a look at our efforts.
Next week we will be pausing our learning about Julia Donaldson and using the changing season as an opportunity to learn all about Autumn. Have a wonderful weekend. Staff and children in Reception W
