week ending 9th June 2023

Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. This week we have been busy using the text Monkey Puzzle to help us with all manner of learning. This is such a lovely story for helping the children to understand about how animals when they are born can often change and look different when they are older. Let's take a little look at this weeks learning.

As always we have had some lovely invitations to come and play and explore in the classroom. Over the holidays we have been very busy changing and updating the areas in class. Take a look at our lovely seaside area - I bet the children have told you all about it. We have transformed our writing area into a travel agents as well. smiley

To start the week we went out onto the ALPS. We made salt dough inside before leaving and then went out to create tree faces. We had a little bit of outdoor dough disco and got creative with our work. We found a tree, flattened the dough to it, then selected lots of different bits and pieces to create an image. We had children making all manner of things from cats, people to dog and frogs. Take a look at some of the wonderful and very creative ideas smiley

We have also been exploring doubles. We have gotten creative and thought about what doubling actually means, how we can show doubles and work out the answer. Here is a little of the work from this week smiley

Building on this new knowledge the day after we explored doubling in a different context to make sure we understand and can transfer our skills. Here we are doubling numbers and finding the answer. A great thing to do at home.

We have also been learning how to be an author. We have changed and innovated the characters from the story Monkey Puzzle and this is our independent writing. Fantastic isn't it?

Read Write Inc is such an important part of our learning to read journey. We have an area in the classroom where children can go and learn, play, read and be with their friends developing their RWI skills and knowledge. Our area is always very popular and we see lots of lovely re-enactments of the adults and how they teach RWI. This kind of play makes us so happy smiley

Next week our text of the week will be What the Ladybird heard again! We are so excited to explore yet another new Julia Donaldson book

Have a great weekend
