This week we have been busy celebrating Chinese New Year. We have learnt so much and it has been lovely talking about different cultures. Chinese New Year is this weekend so make sure to ask the children what we have been doing to celebrate.
First we made sure to start of the week with our new number. We are up to number 12 now and the children love learning a new number each week. We of course celebrated Monty's birthday and did our magic carpet activity. We have then continued learning about the number 12 all week. Take a look at these number we made out of sticks.
We started off the week with a chopstick challenge. We had to see how many pom poms we could pick up with the chopsticks in 1 minute. As an extra challenge we then used our Chinese number line and we wrote how many we got in Chinese. It was tricky!
We have even been looking at writing in different language. So I printed off the children's names and they took their time to trace the writing. They were concentrating so hard and they turned out fantastic. Take a look on the display by the sink to see all our fantastic work.
The children have also been labelling the animals who took part in the race. They have sounded out the names of the animals so well and their writing has been fantastic. We are so proud of them.
To finish off our fantastic week we have been trying Chinese food and opening Fortune Cookies. The children absolutely loved this and it will definitely be something to remember. We loved reading out our fortunes and we were so excited.
We have also been busy this week making dragons and Chinese lanterns.
The children even went outside this week and used our dragon mask to perform their own tradition dragon dance. They all had a turn and it was fantastic!
