Week beginning - 1st February 2021

This week we are Gruffalo baking. Each day the children are baking different recipes adding the magic story ingredients to make, Roasted fox, Owl ice cream, Scrambled snake and Gruffalo crumble.

On Tuesday we made Roasted fox (carrot cake) with Kerry. We talked about the ingredients we needed on the list and used the scales to count out the right amount. We used different tools to mix the ingredients together whilst talking about the story and repeating phrases from the book. We added the magic story ingredient and put our cakes in the oven to cook. They were delicious! 😋😋

On Wednesday, we made Owl ice cream with Toni. We whisked the cream to make it nice and thick and then added the special story ingredient to make it even more delicious. We didn’t need to cook our mixture in the oven this time, instead we need to freeze the mixture in the freezer for 4 hours! In the afternoon, we checked our ice cream and it was brrrrr cold and good enough to eat for snack. It was yummy.

On Thursday, we made Scrambled snake (chocolate Rice Krispie cakes) with Ruth. We used our skills to pour, stir and mix the ingredients together making sure all the krispies are covered, we then added the magic story ingredient to transform our krispie cakes to scrambled snake. We then put them in the fridge to cool down the chocolate before taking them home to show our parents/carers.

On Friday our final recipe was Gruffalo crumble (flapjacks) with Mandy. We used our senses to feel the different textures of the oats, sugar and drippy syrup. We used the scales to measure out the ingredients, mixing them carefully in the large bowl. We then scooped the mixture in to baking cases and let them set in the fridge.
