Friday 10th October 2014

Hello again, welcome to the Y4W blog.

First, let's give you a quick update on our Science from last Friday.  You remember we were attempting to make ice cream without using a freezer?  Well guess what?  It worked!!  It was hard work though (we had to listen to Mr P moan and complain about how his hands were cold, and his arms ached for a whole 10 minutes.  Okay, so he was shaking a bag of ice...but really, what a lot of fuss he made!)

Take a look at these pictures...

This week has been great!!

In Maths, we have been learning all about Roman Numerals.  To begin with we thought they might be tricky, but they're quite easy when you get going.  Have a look at these...

I = 1      V=5       X=10       L=50          C=100       D=500    M=1000

One rule you should know is that you can't have more than 3 of one number in a row.  See if you can work out these numbers.

XXIII,         LVII,         IC,              DCCXXXV

In English we looked at the story of The Clever Wish.  It was great!   We read the story, then did our `talk for writing'.  Then we made a story map of it and boxed it up.  Today, we wrote our version of it.

On Wednesday Mr P showed us something amazing.  He said to us," This afternoon children we will be doing computing unplugged."

"Yes," we said.

"But we won't be using the computers," he said.

"Oh no.  Wait a minute," we said," you have to use computers to do computing!"

"Not if we are doing computing unplugged," he said.

You know what?  He was right! Again!

We had a look at how computers communicate, using something called Binary Numbers.  WOW!!! Did we enjoy this!  Take a look at these pictures...

Other news from this week...well we've started the rehearsals for our Harvest Assembly.  This will take place in the last week, but you'll receive full details before then.

Our teachers would like to thank all of the parents that came in this week on Tuesday or Thursday for Parents' Evening.

See you next week.  Bye for now.
