Friday 15th May

Friday 15th May

Welcome back to the Year 5W blog. It has been busy as always here in Year 5.

Maths - This week we have continued looking at units of measurement. We have learned that we measure length in mm, cm, m or km. Also, we measure mass (weight) in g and kg. Finally, we measure capacity in l and ml. After that, we looked at how to convert between units of measurement. It was all really easy once we learned this…

1litre=1000ml               1kilogram=1000g                  1kilometre=1000m

                                                                                    1metre=100cm

                                                                                    1centimetre=10mm

Then we were given problems like how could we change 7.5 litres of water into ml? All we needed to do was multiply 7.5 by 1000 to reach an answer. All conversions required were to was being able to multiply by 10,100 and 1000 or divide by 10,100 and 1000. Have a practise at home for yourself…

English – This week we have looked at non-chronological reports. This is writing that doesn’t need to be in time order. We have looked at some reports and their features. Then we planned a report of our own all about Greek pottery and finally wrote it on Friday.

Topic – We have added the final decoration to our pots. They are all now finished and on display outside the classroom. They look absolutely amazing and have attracted the attention of all that pass them on the corridor. Here are some pictures of them all…

This week’s certificate winner is Alex for finally realising the importance of reading at home-keep it up! A big well done to Alex from us all.

All that remains is to say we hope you enjoy the weekend and we will see you all on Monday.

Just a quick reminder that the children break up for the half term holiday next Thursday 21st May.
