Friday 19th September

Friday 19th September

Welcome to Year 5W’s blog for this week.

Maths -  This week we have been investigating multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000.

English - This week we have all written our own manifesto for being a school councillor. Also, we have each designed a poster to try and persuade people to vote for us in the School Council elections.  All the children who wanted to be considered for the job stood up and presented their manifesto to the rest of the class. It was a very high standard from every candidate and a really close run campaign. A big well done to all the candidates for their commitment and effort.

After careful consideration, the class cast their votes. Later that morning after the official count, the children were told who their Councillors for the next year will be.

Congratulations to Callum B and Kaylee on their new, exciting role.

Topic - This week we have been looking at maps. We have been thinking about the names of all the continents and oceans of the world. We went in the ALPS and in teams of three searched for maps and had to try and identify either a continent or an ocean. Here are some pictures from our time in the ALPS.

Science – This week we have been looking at plants. We revised the parts of a plant (stem, leaves, flower and roots) and their functions. Also, we looked in detail at the different parts of a flower. We had some lilies in class and were able to clearly identify all the different parts. Later in the week, we thought about what conditions plants need in order to grow. We have all planted cress seeds and placed them in both the dark and the light to see which grow best. Here are some pictures from our Science this week…

Our Certificate Winner this week is Kaylee for her excellent pronunciation in French for Madame Wilson. Trés bien Kaylee!

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing you again on Monday.
