Friday 26th June

Friday 26th June

Welcome back to the Year 5W blog. It has been another busy week here at Westfield.

This week the children have been completing their end of year assessments for English and Maths in class. They have all worked incredibly hard and impressed all their teachers.

Topic – We have begun our new (and final topic of the year) which is called WORDSWORTH AND WAINWRIGHT. On Tuesday, the children spent some time on the laptops researching this new topic. Then on Thursday, they produced amazing fact files in their books about these two fascinating men. Please follow the links below to learn all about Alfred Wainwright and William Wordsworth and their lives.

Science – The children have been learning all about FORCES for the past few weeks. They have found out about gravity and experimented with friction. This week they have been experimenting with air resistance. The children went outside with giant parachutes so that they could feel and see the force in action. After that, they were given the task of designing an aeroplane that needed to be as aerodynamic as possible so that it could fly as far as possible. Here are some photographs from the lesson…

This week in Assembly our CERTIFICATE WINNER was Cory for standing out in French with his speaking skills and his ability to write sentences in French which include a fronted adverbial.

Finally, enjoy the weekend and we will see you back in school on Monday.
