Friday 30th January

Friday 30th January

Welcome back to the Year 5W blog. It has been another busy week for us all.

Maths - This week we began by looking at column addition. Quickly, we moved on to column subtraction and have kept at it all week until absolutely EVERYBODY in class can confidently use this method. We can now all take away using columns even when it gets tricky and we are given decimal numbers, money and units of measurement like km, kg and litres.

English - We began the week continuing with personification. On Tuesday, we all wrote a personification poem describing the classroom. Wednesday proved to be a really exciting day in English as we were introduced to our new class novel...The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We have found it absolutely compelling! We didn't want Mrs Walton to stop reading! We can't wait to find out what happens next to Hogarth and the Iron Man!

Watch the link below to view an animated introduction to the story.

Topic - We have continued to look at our new topic for this half term called EARTH AND SPACE. This week we have been looking at the moon. Have you ever wondered what it's made from? Or why it stays up in the sky? Also, why does it change shape? Well, we have investigated all those questions to find out for ourselves. In particular, we have looked at the phases of the moon and why the shape seems to change appearance over the month.

This week in Assembly our CERTIFICATE WINNER was Ben for his effort and determination to improve his handwriting. Keep going! Well done from us all nosmileyno

Finally, all that remains is for us to wish you a fantastic weekend and hope to see you all back in school on Monday.
