Friday 7th November

Friday 7th November

Welcome back to Year 5W’s blog after the half term week. We hope you enjoyed the time off and had a fantastic Halloween.

Maths -  This week we have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Then, we moved onto multiples and factors. Knowing our times tables is an essential skill for this area of maths. A big well done to those children who have been working hard on practising and learning them over these past few weeks. We have a number of children who have earned certificates and wristbands already. Our challenge for the year is to have every child with their wristbands by the end of Year 5.

English - This week following our trip to the cinema to watch Maleficent, we have been looking at the Sleeping Beauty story and completed some follow up work. We have written a diary entry as if we were Maleficent after she has her wings taken from her. Also, we have each written a review of this amazing, compelling movie saying what we enjoyed, what we would improve and a brief summary of the story (without giving away too much of the plot obviously!)

Topic - We have spent this week completing the last work on our Wetlands and Woodlands topic. All of our wildfowl watercolours are now finished and look amazing! Also, we have done some map work revising the continents and oceans of the world. Do you think you could name all the continents and oceans and place them correctly on a world map?

Our Certificate Winner this week is Ben for writing a powerful, moving character diary. An excellent week all round! We all agree that this is a fantastic achievement and send a big well done to Ben.

Don't forget Breakfast Club begins on Monday morning at 8am...Mrs Pennington is looking forward to seeing all the children who have returned their permission slips.

Also, can we please ask if you haven't already returned the food tasting slip for Mrs Wilson's French lesson on Wednesday can you please do so. Many thanks.

As always, we hope you all have a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing you again on Monday. If you are attending a fireworks display this weekend then have a fantastic time - and stay safe.
