Friday 24th October

Friday 24th October

Welcome to Year 5W’s blog for this week.

Maths -  This week we have been looking at the are of both simple and compound shapes. We had to multiply the length and the width to reach our answers, which was times table practise for us all! When tackling compound shapes we often had to work out the length of a missing side-which can be a little tricky at times! However, most of the class can now do it independently.

English - This week we have been looking at the features of newspaper reports. We wrote our own reports about a missing boy. (Joe from our class novel, The Enchanted Wood, who has vanished into the Land of Ice and Snow!) Also, we have been doing speaking and listening activities based around this work.

Topic - We have each written a recount about our trip to Martin Mere last week detailing all the exciting things that we did.

Also, we spent an afternoon sketching a variety of wildfowl that we saw at Martin Mere. Then, we painted them using watercolours.

Our Certificate Winner this week is Shane for being in school on time every day this week - wide awake and ready to go! KEEP IT UP! He then went on to win the Upper Phase Pupil of the Week trophy, having been chosen by Mrs Forsyth. A big well done to him from us all.

Don’t forget we are visiting the cinema on Tuesday 4th November to watch the magnificent movie Maleficent, with Angelina Jolie.

We wish you all a fantastic half term break and hope you all enjoy the Halloween celebrations. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 3rd November.
