Hello and welcome back to this, our very last blog of the Summer 1 term. This week we have been using the text Snail and the Whale to help us with our learning. Let's take a look at our invitations to play and learn
One of the first activities we did this week was to find out more about snails and whales and where better to look than on the Internet. We created some searches using questions we wanted to find the answers to and recorded our findings
We have also used the theme in our phonics area. We identified capital letters and then searched for the lower case letter that matches. This is a great way of developing our knowledge of letters and what they look like
We then decided to look in more detail at snails. We discovered that they had a foot - not like ours - and that they eat lots of incredible things such as strawberries! Delicious. We then created sketches about snails and tried hard to pay attention to detail
The next thing we did was to think about all of the fabulous texts we had read this half term. The wonderful world of Julia Donaldson has helped us learn so much about stories. We then composed our own Julia Donaldson library full of our favourite titles. Take a look at the amazing detail on our front covers. Fabulous work!
In PE this week we looked at the different movement either a snail or a whale may make. We had some very creative ideas and we had a great time exploring them and learning about balances and how to refine our movements. Take a look at us in action
We also researched and learnt more about the French artist Henri Matisse. He created his own version of a snail picture so we thought we would try to emulate his work. The children really enjoyed this and the end results are beautiful
We hope that you have a fabulous half term holiday and that the sun shines for us all. On our return to school we will be using the text Monkey Puzzle.
Have a restful holiday
