week ending Friday 13th March 2026

Hello and a warm welcome back to this weeks class blog. This week we have been using the text Oliver's Vegetables. A lovely story about a little boy who said he didn't like vegetables only chips. What he didn't realise was chips are made using potatoes! Let's take a look at some of this weeks invitations to learn smiley

We started the week of by thinking about the different types of vegetables Oliver's Grandpa grew in his garden. We used food magazine to create our own yummy plates of vegetables. Here we are with some of the tasty things we cut and talked about. We even added labels showing others what we had found smiley

We then created lists of vegetables that Grandpa could grow. We has some lovely discussions about the differences between fruit and vegetables and this created lots of very interesting questions that we used the Internet to find out the answers to smiley

We also thought about all of the knowledge we already had about things that grow. We worked in small groups to create a fact file and once our learning is over we will revisit this piece of work and add our new learning to it. Well done everyone. We know so much already!

Our Maths work this week has been centred around the number 7. We have been learning that 7 is made up of 5 and 2 more. We have also been exploring part and whole for example our leg is a part and our body is the whole. Look at all the different combinations that some of the children created together to represent 5. Great work everyone smiley

Our Music lesson this week was very interesting! We looked at the sequence of a bean growing and then explored musical instruments and identified which one sounded most suited. We decided that the triangle sounded like water falling and that a bell sounded like the leaves blowing in the wind. the children were great at talking about pitch and tempo smiley

This week has been filled with lots of independent writing! What a joy it has been to see the children choosing to write, practising what they have been learning about in Read Write Inc and to witness the amazing progress they have made. Keep up the good work everyone! smiley
