Hello and welcome back to this weeks blog. This week the children have been super excited to learn all about our new Julia Donaldson topic work. We started off our learning using the fabulous story of Spinderella, a little spider who loves to learn about numbers but his family just keep saying to him that he has either lots or loads
We started the week off by adding our thoughts about what Spinderella might say to his family and adding these ideas to a speech bubble. Our writing is coming on a treat and the children continue to develop their independence which is most pleasing. Take a look at our speech bubbles
We also learnt more about spiders. This gave us the knowledge to create our very own spiders making sure they had 8 legs. We explored lots of different media to create our spiders and they look great
We also challenged ourselves to see how many cvc words we could read on the spiders in 1 minute. We wrote the number down and then did the challenge again to see if we could beat our original score
In the story of Spinderella one of the spiders wanted to play football. We used this as a maths challenge. If each team of spiders had 5 on each team and they had 8 legs how many pairs of football boots would they need? One that really got us thinking. We tested this out on our very own football matches in the classroom. A great activity for develop our hand eye co-ordination
We have been exploring writing patterns this week both at the writing table and in the creative area. We have used the theme of Spinderella and created our own web patterns using different media - again a great way of supporting children to use the correct grip and to make large motor movements
In our Maths work this week we have been thinking about doubling and adding groups together. We have added towers to the spider's web and talked about which has more, less and which are the same. We then looked at adding two groups together and finding out the total
We even used the influence of Spinderella in our phonic area. We created our own word rhyming game and added items to the spider's web that rhymed. Well done everyone. Very creative!
And just to finish a quick look at some lovely independent writing this week across all areas of our continuous provision. The children love to write and fully embrace every opportunity to do so and share their efforts with a grown up
Next week's text of the week is a true favourite. It's Stickman. Why not listen to the story before Monday or draw a picture of Stickman and we can share it in class next week? Have a wonderful weekend
