Week ending 8th May 2026
Hello and welcome to this week's class blog. What a week we have had learning using the text Zog. Let's start off by looking at some of the lovely invitations to play and learn we have explored
We started off the week by thinking about the story and how Zog was desperate to work hard and achieve lots to gain a gold star from his teacher at dragon school. We started to think about all of the things we are really good at and created our very own stars. Take a look at our writing. We are very proud and rightly so!
We then thought about the differences between Westfield and Zog School. We talked about the types of things we learn and what Zog learnt at his school. We created a list to show the differences between the two.
We then rosettes and medals to award to Zog for all of the new things he had learnt. We talked about the amazing things we have acheived and accomplished whilst being in Reception and celebrated all of the things we can do now and the things that we will continue to work hard and practice. Here we are showing off our rewards
We have also taken the story of Zog into lots of different areas within the classroom. We have loved exploring Zog in our Funky Finger area - adding pegs to his picture, in our phonic area - matching capital and lower case letters on dragons and in our maths area where we used tens frames to help us with our learning
We also spent some time looking through all of our Julia Donaldson texts we have in school to enjoy. Did you know that she has written over 230 books? Amazing. And we also discovered that in every story she writes she hides a Gruffalo image. The children have loved being book explorers and finding the hidden Gruffalo
We also continue to explore dressing up in Julia Donaldson character costumes. In our classroom we have created a woodland area where we can dress up, read stories and act them out alongside our friends
However, the highlight of our week has been the visit from Little Barn Farm. Oh what a wonderful time we had. We listened carefully to Natalie who told us all about her fabulous animals and where they lived and what they ate. We even held some of the animals and followed Natalie's instructions carefully to ensure we used quiet voices and kind hands. Here we are down on the farm
Next week we will be using the text The Smartest Giant in Town to help us with our leanring
Have a great weekend
