Week ending 12th June 2026

Welcome back to this weeks class blog! This week we have been exploring the text What the Ladybird Heard Next. A lovely story about how the animals on the farm created a plan to trick Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len. Remember, the ladybird never says a word shhhhh! Let's look at this weeks invitations to learn

One of our first activities we completed this week was to create labels and captions for the different parts of the story. We put into practice our Read Write Inc blending and segmenting skills and got to work. We are really developing our independent writing and we would ask that you continue to work on this at home. It will make a huge difference.

In our creative area we made our own ladybirds by cutting a coil and ensuring we used scissors carefully whilst remembering to turn our paper at the same time. There is a lot to remember when cutting! Here we are feeling very proud

When it finally stopped raining we took our writing outside. The children are learning about capital and lower case letters and we have been setting challenges in our phonics area to help develop there knowledge. We also got creative outside and used water and brushes to write capital letters. This is something the children love to do and is really easy to set up

In our Maths area we have been extending our knowledge of numbers beyond 10. We have been busy ordering numbers on ladybirds to 20 and then asking a friend to close their eyes, removing a number and asking them to guess the missing number. We use this type of activity to help wake up our brains in the afternoon.

Our creative area has once again been very busy. We are developing our observational drawing skills and this week we have focused it on ladybirds. Who knew there were so many different types of ladybirds? We studied some pictures, used google to help us find out more information and then set to work. We love to be creative!

One of our chap lessons this week focused on understanding that inside a shape we can fit lots of other shapes but they gradually become smaller and smaller. We looked at the work of the artist Kandinsky and his work on circles and triangles and then we got to work. We drew a large circle and then focused on fitting inside of that large circle as many smaller ones as possible. The children were really focused on this task and we explored how we could use this ideas with other 2d shapes such as a square and rectangle

In PE we looked at ways we can move. We explored how to use different parts of our bodies and learnt about what happens to our hearts as we exercise. We also talked about ways to stay healthy such as limited screen time, lots of sleep and fresh air.

We finished off the week with a doubling challenge. Taking our theme of ladybirds we created doubles and then recorded the number sentence below. This created much excitement in the classroom and the children could not wait to have a go. Lots of dojos were given

Next weeks text of the week will be Superworm. The friendly worm who was super strong and super long - perfect opportunity for lots of measuring work.

Have a wonderful weekend
