Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog.
This week we have been using the text Tiddler, the lovely story about a fish who had such a big imagination and told lots of tales as to why he was always late for school. Let's start of as we always do and look at this weeks invitations to play and learn
In our writing area we created descriptions and some independent writing about the events in the story. We are really impressing the grown-ups in the room with the way we use our Fred Fingers and write the sounds we can hear. Here are just some of our efforts
In the story of Tiddler he was always late to school. We talked about the days of the week we come to school and those that we don't. We impressed the grown-ups in the room with our ability to recognise some of the days of the week, order them and then recite them in the correct order.
Our Maths area has been very popular this week. One of the days we introduced the children to a 100 square. Wow the learning that took place blew us all away. We had children writing numbers, talking about one more and one less, what two numbers are when added together and a whole lot more.
Our reading corner this week has some new Julia Donaldson books added. The children have loved listening to their friends tell stories, looking at the pictures and making up their own stories and the staff have loved listening to their creativity and story telling skills
Our Learning to Learn space as always is popular. We love this space inn the classroom that allows us to explore and experiment with lots of different activities.
This week despite our text of the week being about a little fish with a big imagination and the ocean we had a visitor to class. The children found a dragon fly in the classroom. Immediately they knew that it shouldn't have landed on the j Read Write Inc letter line but instead should have found the d for dragon fly. This created a lot of interest and was a lovely unplanned learning opportunity that led to some research about dragon flies and where they live and so on.
Next week we will be using the text Charlie Cooks Favourite Book. A lovely story about a little boy who is reading a book about pirates, who are then reading books about aliens who are reading books about Goldilocks. Each day we will explore a new book and be just like Charlie Cook.
Have a wonderful weekend in the sun
