Week ending 3rd July 2026

Hello and welcome back to our class blog.

This week we have been using the text Charlie Cooks favourite book to help us with our learning. The lovely story about a little boy who reads his favourite book in his comfy chair and discovers that the characters are all reading about someone else! Let's look at how we set up our learning challenges in provision this week

This week is our final week learning about Julia Donaldson. It has been an amazing term filled with new opportunities, new knowledge and a love of books. Here are some of the texts we have enjoyed

One of the first things we did this week was to orally retell the story. We learnt about the different characters and each day we changed and adapted our provision to match. Here we are exploring pirate writing

We also got creative and created our very own pirate flags. Ahoy there shipmate!

We also used the theme of pirates to speedy read some words in our phonics area. We are gaining in confidence when identifying words with special friends and we loved the challenge of seeing how many we could read in 1 minute

On the second day we transferred our thoughts to the story about aliens that Charlie Cook enjoyed. We looked through our book store and found all of our favourite stories about aliens - Aliens love Underpants made us giggle. Here we are with our alien writing

We also made up our own alien words - just like in RWI - we then challenged our friends to read them and write their own alien words

We then looked at different ways we could work out the answer to some simple addition number sentences. We used our critical thinking skills and resources to help us work out the answers. We then thought about how many cubes long we would actually measure. We had a great time working out who was the tallest and how many cubes would we need to successfully measure our friends

We hope you have an amazing weekend
