This week in pre-school we have continued to learn about 'homes' and the range of different families that we have within our classroom. Our text of the week was 'In Every House on Every Street' by Jess Hitchman and illustrations by Lili La Beleine.
Toby provided us with 30 excellent boxes to create our own houses in the style of Lili La Beleine and Mrs Baggaley worked tirelessly to turn them inside out for us to decorate!
We liked the part of the story where the family sang to the cat whilst baking a cake. The children enjoyed taking turns to use the kitchen utensils to sing their own favourite songs to the class and Sophie Giraffe.
In Maths we have been learning about 'more' 'fewer' 'long' 'tall' and 'short'
We had to create our own versions of 'more' and 'fewer' and on Friday we ordered ourselves against our friends to see who was 'taller' and who was 'shorter'.
Tyrone is the tallest in our class and Georgia is the shortest.
In Read, Write Inc. we learned the new sounds
o c k u b
and we continued to read and say sounds
m a s d t i n p g
Some children began wordtime, where we learn to put the sounds together to make words like: sat, mad, sad, at and dad.
We use blending boards and magnetic letters. In the provision, some children chose to challenge themselves by 'having a go' at writing these words in the writing area.
This week's dojo winner was Ruby. Ruby received 12 dojos this week and took her total to 51! When we reach 50 dojos we can trade them in and receive a prize from the prize box. This is what Ruby did! She is down to one dojo now but has a little prize and certificate to represent her hard work! Well done Ruby.
This weeks Star of The Week, chosen by Sophie Giraffe and Mrs Rothwell, is Yazan for his growth in confidence in the classroom this week. We are very proud of you!
Our Text of the Week next week is 'A New Home for Pirate'
