6th March

This week in Reception we learned about 'growing' through the text Jasper's Beanstalk.

We learned that a seed, bean or bulb needs light, soil and water to grow but most importantly it needs time!

Jasper was very impatient, he looked after his bean so well but he thought it would grow in just one week!

We followed the days of the week through the book and learned about new words such as 'rake' and 'mowed'.

We have made a beautiful display, combining our phonic knowledge, creative skills and understanding of the text in the classroom.

On Wednesday, we researched slugs and snails.  We were astounded to find out that snails have 20,000 teeth and slugs have 27,000!  We also found out that slugs have a small shell in their back which is not visible.

Most importantly we learned that they like to eat plants which is why Jasper picked them all up on Friday night!

We had a great time on Thursday on World Book Day!

Mrs Baker set us a challenge.  We had to finish a poem all about being a pupil at Westfield.  Here is the finished version:

I'm a Westfield pupil

Through and through

Brimming with HOPE

In alll that I do

I'm a Westfield pupil

I'm in Reception class....

Then we wrote

I am learning to read and write

and I'm fabulous at Maths!

On Friday afternoon, we headed over to the climbing frame to practise the new skills we have been learning here since September.  Some children are so confident now that they can do forward rolls and back rolls on the highest bar!  Other children can now climb up the rope independently and get onto the tyre swings without any help!

This week's Star of the Week was Isla.  She has been very impressive in RWI sessions this week.

Our dojo winner was Julia!  Well done girls

Next week, we will be exploring vegetables that grow from the ground in the text 'Oliver's Vegetables'.  This text also tells us about the days of the week, just like Jasper's beanstalk.

You can watch the story here

OLIVER'S VEGETABLES

See you all on Monday!
