15th May

This week in Reception, we read the story 'The Smartest Giant in Town'.

This is written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.  We have read four other books by this author this half term, but this book may just be our favourite!

Mrs Rothwell introduced the story by bringing in an old suitcase.  When it was opened, we saw huge, smart clothes that look like they belonged to a giant!

We tried them on and it was very funny!

We wrote a letter to Julia Donaldson telling her all about our favourite books written by her and what we enjoyed about them.  Mrs Rothwell is going to post it and we hope for a reply before the end of our time in Reception!

In the book, the giant called George is very caring and friendly towards the animals that he meets.  We decided that we would have a special kindness award in our class this week.  Well done to Lilly-Anne and Oscar who were 'caught being kind' on many occasions this week.  It is a pleasure to have you in our classroom.

In Maths we have been focussing on number bonds to 10.  We have been learning to look at the 'hiding' number to help us.  i.e we put up 7 fingers and can see 3 'hiding' so 7 + 3 = 10.

Our Star of the Week is Kaleb.  He has been a star in class this week!  The dojo winner was Julia! Julia and Jacob visited Mrs Houghton's office for juice and a story as they have been working very hard in Maths this week.

Next week, we will be reading the final book of this half term- The Snail and the Whale.
